[Day 6] Forget Clickbait: Here's How I Get 25-35% of Readers to Actually Open My Emails (With Proof)

What if you could transform your content from a one-way street into an interactive experience that leaves your audience wanting more?

In today's content-saturated world, capturing attention and keeping your audience engaged is a constant battle. You meticulously craft content, hit publish, and... crickets. But what if you could transform your content from a one-way street into an interactive experience that leaves your audience wanting more?

The key lies in mastering three essential skills: storytelling, visual appeal, and interactivity. By incorporating these elements strategically, you can unlock a new level of engagement, boost your email open rates (like I did, maintaining a consistent 25-35%!), and build a loyal following.

Here is the proof:

That's from my Vietnamese blog and I send newsletter everyday. Most people will find it spamming. But not my readers. As you can see, the email open rate is very high (25-35%). And normally email open rate is only at 17-28%.

So how I did it?

Skill #1: Mastering the Art of Storytelling

Humans are hardwired for stories. Since the dawn of time, stories have served as a powerful tool to connect, educate, and entertain. In the context of content creation, storytelling allows you to weave information into a narrative that resonates with your audience on an emotional level. Here's how to unlock the power of storytelling:

  • Craft a Compelling Narrative: Every story needs a clear beginning, middle, and end. Hook your audience with a captivating introduction, then take them on a journey with relatable characters (even if the character is you!). Build suspense, introduce challenges, and ultimately deliver a satisfying conclusion that reinforces your message.
  • Tap into Emotions:

Stories that evoke emotions - happiness, sadness, surprise - create a lasting impression. Don't shy away from vulnerability. Share personal anecdotes, highlight customer success stories, or explore real-life challenges.

  • Show, Don't Tell:

Instead of simply listing facts, use vivid descriptions to paint a picture in the reader's mind. Employ strong verbs, sensory details, and active voice to make your content come alive.

I applied storytelling in most of my blog posts. You can read them here:

And when I share my story with other creators, I receive really good feedback:

Skill #2: Utilizing Visual Appeal

In a world bombarded with information, visuals are a powerful tool to grab attention and enhance understanding. The human brain processes visual information much faster than text, making images and videos a potent way to break up content and increase engagement. Here's how to leverage visual appeal:

  • High-Quality Images:

Invest in high-quality, relevant images that complement your content. Avoid blurry or generic stock photos. Opt for visuals that are aesthetically pleasing and directly related to your topic.

  • The Power of Video:

Video is the undisputed king of content. Short, engaging videos can explain complex topics, showcase your brand personality, and humanize your message. Consider incorporating explainer videos, product demonstrations, or behind-the-scenes glimpses.

  • Infographics and Data Visualization:

Complex data can be overwhelming in text format. Infographics and data visualizations present information in a visually appealing and digestible way, making it easier for your audience to understand and retain key takeaways.

I combine image and video into my blog post. For example, I use this image to show how I recover from depression:

And because Moondancing is my Unique Selling Point, I use most of them in my blog post, especially to showcase my points of making money online with my Moondancing skill. Here is an example video:
